Welcome to the English Department!

English is the most important subject for us, not just because we have a love of the language, but, because it is the language of business and the first language at DBS. We aim to encourage all students to become competent and confident speakers, listeners and writers of the English language. We encourage our students to develop the skills that will enable them to become lifelong learners and global citizens in an international setting. Having teachers from the United Kingdom, America and New Zealand is in keeping with the International tone of the school and gives us an understanding of different cultures.
The English Curriculum is delivered and covers a range of prose and poetry from modern day back to Shakespeare’s time. Using a range of stimulating resources from the world of media and non-fiction, the students are expected to produce varying writing styles.

Relationships are the basis of our success. Relationships are built on respect, empathy and caring. Being internationally aware develops students for positive relationships and global citizenship.
