This is what we aspire to here in the Early Years department at Doha British School.  The highly qualified and experienced staff support children’s learning and development by closely matching what they provide to a child’s current needs. Children are observed as they act and interact in their play, everyday activities and planned activities; this enables practitioners to identify the individual’s ‘next steps’ which can then be planned for and implemented.  To promote engagement, children are encouraged to find out and explore, and be willing to ‘have a go’.  Motivation and active learning is seen in the children’s involvement and concentration during activities, and their enjoyment in achieving what they set out to do. By enabling them to make links, have their own ideas and choose ways to do things, the staff support children to become creative and critical thinkers. In this way, solid foundations are laid for future lifelong learning.
