This stage includes Yr 1 and Yr 2 classes. Children must be aged 5 by September 1st to enter Yr 1 and 6 to enter Yr 2. The core subjects are English, where children learn to read and write and Mathematics where lessons are focused on learning to count, write numbers and solve simple problems. Science is the third core subject where children learn to investigate experiment and evaluate. Other foundation subjects include Art, Design Technology, Social Studies and Physical Education. Yr 2 students take end of Key Stage 1 tests before proceeding to Key Stage 2.
