Careers Education and Guidance
Our division is designed to support students in choosing and achieving their future career aspirations. For some of the students the choice will be very straight forward. They will be clear about their career goals from a relatively early age and that will determine at least some of their subject choices. However for many of students that is not the case. A significant number will leave school not being clear about what specific career they wish to pursue. We do not see that as a problem. What we do want is for them to be going to university to pursue a subject about which they care for.
Career decisions often fall into place at this later stage. We are mindful a career choice has to be the student’s choice and not what their teacher or what their parents might want. The careers programme is under constant review. If parents feel they can support it in any way please let us know and we would welcome your thoughts. Our aim is to provide students with a wealth of information about career opportunities and subject options.
The students are constantly kept informed of events related to university entrance requirements and deadlines. They are encouraged to attend a variety of open days and university fairs. There will be university representative visiting the school during the terms.
The students are encouraged to consult university prospectuses and websites, and to make full use of the material available to them in the secondary library and Sixth Form office. There is information from global universities, including selection criteria. The students need to be aware that universities are constantly updating information on their websites and of their deadlines. They are also given the opportunity to consult with Mrs. Sara Prince, Careers Education and Guidance Counsellor, to discuss their aspirations and university choices.
