It is a great privilege to become the Principal of Doha British School. I have known this school since it was founded in 1997 and have watched it grow and develop into a 3 to 18 school (pre-school to IB Diploma) serving the needs of a diverse community. Economic growth and development in Qatar are rapid. The rate of change here reflects that of the global economy. It is our fundamental responsibility to equip our children to thrive in a world that we can’t predict, anticipate or understand. In order to do so we will ensure that all of our children are regarded as unique, each with different abilities, strengths, attributes and characteristics. They will be challenged to achieve the very best that they possibly can. A significant strength of this school is the exceptional relationship enjoyed between governors, management, teachers, parents and pupils. This stakeholder cohesion engenders a unity of purpose and determination that will ensure the very best learning environment for each and every child in our care. Working together we can move the school forward and make it one of the best in the region and beyond.
Teaching and Learning here is innovative and creative. Our facilities are excellent and our standards are high, with an emphasis on the continuous improvement of teaching and learning at the heart of our objectives. We believe that pupils can become better learners if they are given appropriate support and guidance. We will develop within them the desire to learn. We will build their self-esteem by acknowledging their unique qualities and we will motivate them to achieve to the very best of their ability. This will be done by ensuring that all of our pupils develop an increasing capacity to learn. We will encourage them to be reflective and curious; to be resourceful and to take responsibility for their own learning. They will develop the skills to reason and to think carefully before making judgements. Most of all, they must be resilient and not give up too easily. We are asking a lot of our children. They are facing a future where their success will, in large part, be determined by their ability to adapt to dynamic and rapidly changing circumstances. So our pupils will become resourceful, responsible, reasoning, resilient and reflective. These hugely important qualities will help to raise their achievement, improve behaviour, increase motivation, increase enjoyment in learning, establish habits of lifelong learning and enhance their creativity.
We want our children and young adults to develop an awareness of other cultures, places, issues and people from all around the world. We are an international school that exists within a global economy. We will ensure that our pupils become global citizens with an understanding of the importance of human, social, economic and environmental development.
