a Secondary School Curriculum | IGCSE | Doha British School Ain Khaled

Doha British School is one of the most established schools in Qatar. It is renowned for providing an outstanding holistic education and is among the highest achieving schools when it comes to Exam outcomes in Qatar, at both IGCSE and post sixteen including IB and A Level. Many of DBS students go on to study at prestigious Universities across the world.

The secondary curriculum at DBS is at the cutting edge of the English National Curriculum and is reviewed and refined annually. The curriculum goes significantly beyond the minimum expectations and DBS offers one of the broadest range of subjects and courses from Year 7 through to Year 13. Our curriculum is underpinned by the ‘DBS Ways’ and embodies our whole school approach to character education, providing a deep and rich experience for all.

At DBS, students are stretched and challenged and the school makes no apologies for expecting the highest standards in terms of behaviour, discipline and attitudes towards all members of the school community. The high standards expected means the school offers an exhilarating and challenging learning environment where the students and staff feel safe, happy and valued.

A warm welcome to Doha British School awaits you and we are available to support any visits to the campus and experience for yourself all that this world-class school has to offer.

Secondary School Age 11 - 18

Years 7, 8 and 9

(Years 7, 8 and 9)

Our pupils progress though Key Stage 3 where they follow a modified version of the English National Curriculum. This allows the development of the essential subject skills vital to success in both study and in life. DBS teachers encourage students to become independent learners, helping them to process ideas critically, rather than simply teaching content to pass an exam. All students study a full range of subjects including: English, Maths, Science, Humanities (History and Geography), Computer Science, Physical Education, a language (Arabic, Spanish or French), Art and Design, Business Studies, Design Technology and Music. During Year 9, students and parents are invited to the Year 9 Options Evening, where they have the opportunity to discuss IGCSE subject choices with teachers, leaders and our Careers Education and Guidance Counsellor.

Years 10 and 11

(Years 10 and 11)

In Key Stage 4, all students study three core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science, as well as four optional subjects over 2 years to complete their International General Certificate in Secondary Education (IGCSE). Most subjects are assessed by a combination of in classwork and a final standardised exam at the end of Year 11.

The 2019 IGCSE results were the highest the school has ever achieved. Over 85% of the students achieved 5 9 to 4 grades including IGCSE English and IGCSE Mathematics. 28% of students achieved 5 9 to 8 grades which means that 1 in 4 of the students who left last year were in the top 1% in the world for achievement at IGCSE. On average students achieved 1 (+0.9) grade higher than their target grade across all subjects which places Doha British School in the top percentile for value added when compared to schools in the UK. This places Doha British School amongst the highest achieving Grammar and Independent schools in the UK. Furthermore students from DBS achieved the highest mark in Qatar across the following 7 IGCSE subjects, Art and Design, Business Studies, English Language, French, History, Physics, Double Science, Spanish and the highest mark in the middle-east for Physics and Spanish.  We are immensely proud of the achievements of our students and it evidences the ‘Outstanding’ delivery of our rich and broad range of IGCSE courses.
