Doha British School is one of the most prestigious British curriculum international schools in Qatar. It is renowned for providing an exceptional holistic education.
Our curriculum reflects the best of the National Curriculum of England. It is broad and balanced. It is challenging and rigorous. We assess all of our pupils so that we can appreciate their particular needs and propensities. We tailor our provision to ensure that our teaching and learning is responsive to the needs of the pupils. We firmly believe that all young people can, need and want to learn and it is our absolute commitment to ensure that each and every pupil gets the most out of the experience of being in our school.
At DBS, students are stretched and challenged and the school makes no apologies for expecting the highest standards in terms of behaviour, discipline and positive attitudes towards all members of the school community. The high standards expected means the school offers an exhilarating and challenging learning environment where the students and staff feel safe, happy and valued.
A warm welcome to Doha British School.
In Key Stage 3 our pupils cover a wide range of subjects. They are taught in mixed groups for the majority of their subjects, with setting occurring only in maths.
Our curriculum is not just about the academic challenge. It is supported and deepened by a wide and vast range of pastoral, extra-curricular and global set of opportunities which all build on the belief we have in the importance of character education for each and every child.
Our pupils progress though Key Stage 3 where they follow a modified version of the English National Curriculum. This allows the development of the essential subject skills vital to success in both study and in life. DBS teachers encourage students to become independent learners, helping them to process ideas critically, rather than simply teaching content to pass an exam. All students study a full range of subjects including:
Some students will follow a different pathway taking 1 of 2 optional routes
Spanish or French
Qatar National Vision
During Year 9, students and parents are invited to the Year 9 Options Evening, where they have the opportunity to discuss IGCSE subject choices with teachers, leaders and our Careers Education and Guidance Counsellor.
The secondary curriculum at Doha British School offers pupils a natural academic progression from Year 7 up to University, for a global community
In Key Stage 4, all students study the two core subjects of English and Mathematics, as well as six optional subjects over 2 years to complete their International General Certificate in Secondary Education (IGCSE). All students have to select a minimum of two science subjects within the 6 option subjects. Most subjects are assessed by a combination of classwork and/or a final standardised exam at the end of Year 11.
