- To lead, manage, develop and maintain high quality provision of learning support across both Primary and Secondary Schools, which enables quality teaching, excellent learning outcomes and success for all pupils.
- To induct staff with regard to Learning Support (Learning Support Assistants; 1:1 Learning Support Assistants; Classroom Assistants; Learning Assistants) and to manage their continuing development.
- To keep all aspects of paperwork including records and policies, up-to-date and actioned, as appropriate.
- To ensure that teachers have access to associated pupil records so that teaching strategies are informed and all pupils make progress.
Strategic direction and development of Learning Support provision across the school
- Contribute to a positive ethos in which all pupils have access to a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum.
- Support all staff in understanding the varied learning requirements of pupils with Learning Support needs.
- Devise and promote plans to ensure that the learning requirements of pupils with Learning Support needs are met and that they are reflected in the school improvement plan.
- Support line managers to monitor progress against targets for pupils with Learning Support needs. Evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning and use these analyses to guide future improvements.
- Analyse and interpret relevant information relating to pupils with Learning Support needs and advise SLT about the level of resources required to maximise achievement.
- Liaise with staff, parents and other service providers to co-ordinate their contribution, provide maximum support and ensure continuity of educational provision pupils with Learning Support needs.
- Develop partnerships with parents to ensure that their views are considered and acted upon appropriately
- Ensure that pupils with Learning Support needs are enabled to share their views and that these are acted upon appropriately.
Teaching and learning:
- Support the identification of, and disseminate the most effective teaching approaches for pupils with Learning Support needs.
- Collect and interpret specialist assessment data on Learning Support to inform practice.
- Work with pupils, class teacher and Assistants to ensure realistic and challenging expectations of pupils with Learning Support needs.
- Monitor the use of resources, teaching activities and target setting and develop and maintain a recording system for progress of pupils with Learning Support needs.
- Teach in the area of Learning Support as required.
Leading and managing:
- Achieve constructive working relationships and establish opportunities for the Assistant Head: Learning Support, Learning Support Assistants and teachers to review the needs, progress and targets of pupils with Learning Support needs.
- Provide regular information to Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and governors on the effectiveness of SEN provision and outcomes.
- Advise and contribute to all aspects of Learning Support CPD to ensure the professional development of staff.
- Line Management of Learning Support Assistants, 1:1 Learning Support Assistants, Specialist EAL Teacher and other line management duties at the Principals discretion.
Parents:
- Work with parents and families who have a child with Learning Support needs, offering support and guidance.
Resources:
- Identify appropriate resources to promote and support the progress and achievement of pupils with Learning Support needs and ensure they are used efficiently, effectively and safely.
- Ensure that resources are included on, and checked against, an inventory at the start and end of each academic year.
